When our work is finished, Waikōwhai will have 700+ new homes across the neighbourhood:

  • 168 Kāinga Ora social homes
  • 540 market homes, built by working with our development partners.

As of July 2026, we have:

  • Completed 23 homes in Waikōwhai
  • About 40 homes currently under construction

Hundreds more are soon to start, so make sure to sign up to our email newsletter to get house listings straight to your inbox.

Civil works: upgrading our parks, pipes and roads

Our much-loved Molley Green Reserve has had an upgrade, and more work is under way.

We’ve achieved a lot in Waikōwhai already, but more is happening as we prepare for our future.

For the past few years, we’ve been upgrading the pipes that bring us fresh water, help it drain, and flush away our waste. We’re also laying new power and Internet cables, and improving our roads and footpaths.

A lot of this mahi is already complete. For stages 1 and 2, our civil works have enabled about 380 new homes to be built. Stage 4 and 4B house removals have also started, after which we can prepare the land for about 245 new social and market homes.

With all of our work, we also look for ways to better protect the nature. Our upgrades in Molley Green Reserve are a great way to see how we do this.

Molley Green Reserve
Our much-loved park was closed for about a year for upgrades, so it could be carefully redesigned to support both our people and nature. Since it reopened, we’ve also kept working on Te Auaunga ki Tai Reserve. This connects us to Watercare’s Central Interceptor, New Zealand’s largest-ever wastewater project.
