Oranga Development

Oranga is a friendly neighbourhood in the heart of Auckland. It sits between Onehunga and Ellerslie, close to Cornwall Park and Maungakiekie (One Tree Hill). Shops, schools, public transport and local services are all nearby.

It's easy to get where you need to go while staying connected to your community. Tree-lined streets, parks and open spaces make Oranga a great place for people and whānau to enjoy everyday life.

We're working with the community to make Oranga an even better place to live. New homes are being built alongside upgrades to streets, parks and other public spaces. These changes will help create a safer, more connected neighbourhood for everyone.

There are homes to suit different needs and stages of life. Whether you're buying your first home, need more room for your whānau, or want a low-maintenance home, you'll find a range of options. The neighbourhood includes both social housing and homes for sale, helping build a diverse and welcoming community.

As Oranga grows, more people will have the chance to live in this great central location. With quality new homes and easy access to parks, transport and local amenities, Oranga is a place where communities can thrive.

Amenities

Shops, cafés, schools and parks are all close by. Onehunga and Ellerslie villages are just a few minutes away, while Royal Oak and Sylvia Park offer even more places to shop, eat and spend time with friends and whānau.

Cornwall Park is nearby and easy to get to. Take a walk, enjoy a picnic, let the kids burn off some energy, or simply spend time outdoors in one of Auckland's most loved green spaces.

Set at the foot of Maungakiekie (One Tree Hill), Oranga enjoys views of the maunga and the Manukau Harbour from many parts of the neighbourhood. Tree-lined streets, open spaces and easy access to Mt Smart Stadium add to the area's appeal.

It's all part of a neighbourhood that helps people and whānau stay connected, active and close to the things that matter most.

Transport

Oranga makes getting around easy.

Many people who live in Oranga work in nearby areas such as Ellerslie, Penrose, Mt Wellington and Auckland Airport. The city centre and the airport are both about 11 kilometres away, making it easy to travel in either direction.

Motorway connections are close by, helping you get where you need to go. If you prefer public transport, Te Papapa train station is only a 15 to 20-minute walk from the neighbourhood.

It's all part of a well-connected neighbourhood that helps people and whānau stay close to work, family and the places they visit most.

Education

Oranga makes it easy for kids to learn, grow and stay connected to their community. There are three schools in the neighbourhood: Oranga Primary School, Te Papapa School and One Tree Hill College. They're close enough for many children to walk or cycle to school.

Families also have plenty of other education options nearby, with schools in surrounding suburbs just a short bus ride away.

From the early years through to secondary school, Oranga gives families easy access to local education and the everyday convenience that comes with living close to school.

Wherever you’re starting from, Mangere is a place with pathways for people to learn, grow and succeed.

History

Oranga has a long history as a close-knit community.

The neighbourhood was first developed in the 1940s as a social housing area. Over time, some of those homes became privately owned, creating the mix of social and private housing that exists today.

Oranga is now entering a new chapter. Over the coming years, new homes will be built across the neighbourhood, along with upgrades to streets and public spaces. The new homes will include apartments, duplexes, terraced homes and standalone houses to suit a range of households.

While the neighbourhood continues to grow and change, Oranga remains a place where people can build connections, feel part of a community and enjoy a great central Auckland location.
